Capturing Still Frames and Single Images

Question: I need to convert between .MOVand .AVI format files. Is a utility available to do this?
Both commercial and noncommercial utilities are available for file conversion:

Commercial:
Ulead Systems' Media Studio Pro* 2.5 (for PC) converts .MOV files to .AVI format. Adobe Premiere* 4.0 (for Windows* 3.1) or Premiere 4.2 (for Windows 95 and Windows NT*) converts files of either format to the other. In addition, Adobe Premiere 4.2 features special support for Indeo® video interactive.

Noncommercial:
VfW Converter (for Mac) converts .MOV files to .AVI format and AVItoQT Utility (for Mac) converts .AVI files to .MOV format. Both are available in the file QTAVI.sit from Microsoft's ftp site or CompuServe* forum. For the PC, Intel currently offers Smartvid for .AVI to .MOV or .MOV to .AVI conversion, available on all of Intel's electronic forums. However, Smartvid currently cannot reinterleave audio and video.

For more information about conversion issues between the .MOV and .AVI file formats, see Cross-Platform Development Using Indeo Video.

Microsoft's ftp site also offers Video for Windows 1.1 Macintosh* utilities. It can be found at ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/developr/drg/Multimedia/Jumpstart/VfW11-Mac.

Question: I want to capture still images. Can the ISVR III do this?
The ISVR III can capture still images up to a resolution of 640 by 480. It can also capture motion video at 640 by 480 at very low frame rates. The ISVR III comes bundled with Asymetrix' Digital Video Producer*, a digital video capture and editing utility that can capture still images. Other video capture utilities can also be used to capture stills.

Question: What is the difference between capturing single frames and capturing still images?
Single frames are captured in the YVU9 Raw format; still images are captured in the RGB 24 format.
